2. Question: Formulate questions based on the headings and subheadings you've encountered during the survey phase. These questions will guide your reading and help you engage with the material actively.
3. Read: Read the material carefully while looking for answers to the questions you formulated. Pay attention to key points, examples, and supporting details. Try to understand the concepts and ideas presented.
4. Recite: After reading a section, close the book or document and try to recite the answers to the questions you generated. This step helps reinforce your understanding and memory of the material.
5. Review: Once you've finished reading the entire material, review your notes, the questions you created, and any summaries provided. This step helps consolidate your learning and identify any areas you might need to revisit.
The SQ3R method encourages active engagement with the material, creating a structured approach to reading and studying that enhances comprehension and retention. It's especially useful for tackling complex or lengthy texts.
