Emergency Resilience Hub, Oakland CA Edition

A friendly, all-in-one guide to get yourself, your household, and your neighborhood prepared for any emergency
About this template

The need for robust emergency preparedness has never been more critical than in today's rapidly evolving world. As we face increasingly complex challenges - from intensifying natural disasters to emerging technological threats - the ability to protect and support our communities has become paramount. Most highly populated cities in the country face unique combinations of risks, from earthquakes and wildfires to floods and infrastructure vulnerabilities, to hurricanes and tornadoes. They demand sophisticated preparedness strategies.

This is where The Emergency Resilience Nerds come in. By combining the best of emergency management with the best of tech nerds, we created a user-friendly, all-in-one guide to get yourself, your household, and your neighborhood prepared for any emergency. It contains templates to organize and store all the most important info, but more than that, it is full of useful resources, local numbers and organizations, and emergency operation plans, as well as guides and checklists on how to create a personal emergency plan, how to implement a proven plan to build your own resilient neighborhood, and your own neighborhood dashboard. We have different city editions, and are always adding more.

We believe that emergencies are scary, preparing for them shouldn’t be. Welcome to the Emergency Resilience Nerd’s Oakland Edition.

This is not your ordinary Notion template, nor is it really a template. In reality, it’s more of a **Household Emergency Preparedness Companion** integrated into Notion. The focus here is not on the design (though we love a minimalist aesthetic), but on the content. Above all else, this is a tool to help you build emergency resilience.

We designed the workbook to be people-friendly. It is intentionally low-tech and distraction free, so that it can accessible and easy to interact with - even for people (like us once) who thought they’d never get the hang of Notion - and less about the bells and whistles and more about the substance.

The template is designed with the intention of starting at the top, and each subpage also has a natural suggested flow, but like everything else in the workbook template (we really need to come up with a word), these are just suggestions, and we invite you to add, delete, edit, and change any aspect of the workbook so that it best works for you.

# Our Mission

We make emergency preparedness approachable, actionable, and even enjoyable. By breaking down complex readiness concepts into simple, engaging steps, we empower communities to build resilience without feeling overwhelmed. Based in Oakland, California - a city that faces unique challenges from earthquakes and wildfires to social equity issues - we understand firsthand the importance of comprehensive preparedness. Our own community has inspired us to reimagine how we approach emergency readiness, moving beyond fear-based messaging to create practical, inclusive solutions. Our mission is to transform the culture of preparedness from one of fear and procrastination to one of confidence and capability - because being prepared shouldn't be scary, it should be empowering. We believe that when communities prepare together, they grow stronger together, fostering connections that build resilience long before emergencies strike.

We will soon be releasing additional city editions.
